“It is the greatest honor of my life to be able to represent my community in Congress. I grew up in this district and served in the Colorado state legislature for a decade before heading to D.C. to increase opportunities for regular people like me,” said Pettersen. “While far too many people in Washington are focused on partisanship and dysfunction, I’ve spent this first year working on delivering real results. We’ve worked on legislation to address the opioid crisis, increase access to affordable housing and childcare, and improve lives across Colorado. I’ve met with people across our eight counties and my team has helped thousands of residents, secured millions in grant funding for our district, and so much more.”

During her first year in office, Pettersen has delivered for her district, closing over 1,000 constituent cases, returning over $3 million to residents through casework, helping secure $74 million in grants, and responding to 100,000 constituent emails, calls, and letters. Her office has held dozens of events and Pettersen has attended more than 160 community meetings, events, and tours across the eight counties that make up Colorado’s 7th Congressional District.
In Washington, Pettersen has introduced 29 bills, 23 of which are bipartisan this year, including three that were passed by the U.S. House of Representatives. She cosponsored 308 bills this year, including measures to lower costs, support veterans and seniors, protect women’s reproductive health care, fund child care and affordable housing options, and protect the environment.
Some highlights of Pettersen’s work this year include:
- Addressing the opioid crisis
- Introduced nearly a dozen bills to reduce the import of fentanyl, expand resources for those with substance use disorders, and increase access to naloxone
- Serves as a member of the Bipartisan Addiction and Mental Health Task Force
- Introduced a bill that passed the House to help combat drug cartels bringing illegal synthetic drugs, like fentanyl, into Colorado and communities across the country
- Introduced a bill that passed the House as a part of the SUPPORT Act to bolster recovery programs
- Addressing local concerns
- Urging USPS to address postal delays and other issues in rural areas, including sending hundreds of constituent complaints to the Postmaster General, and introducing legislation on specific postal challenges
- Introduced measure to permanently authorize PILT to support counties with public lands
- Introduced Shelter Act to help residents harden their homes and businesses against natural disasters
- Introduced the School Safety Drill Research Act to keep kids safe and mentally well
- Brought a bill to address illegal street-racing after hearing concerns from residents in Westminster and Broomfield
- Helped secure retention bonuses for Florence Correction Officers
- Urging the VA to prioritize the construction of a medical clinic to help veterans in Fremont County
- Helped get water beads off the shelves of stores to protect the children they were being marketed towards
- Pushing to address environmental concerns, including air quality, infrastructure at contaminated sites, and protecting water and other natural resources
- Serving on the Financial Services Committee
- Working to hold banks accountable, introduced the Stopping Bonuses for Unsafe and Unsound Banking Act
- Using position as Vice Ranking Member on the National Security subcommittee to crack down on traffickers utilizing the financial system
