Fighting Back Against the Trump Administration

We have heard from so many Coloradans concerned about the reckless actions of the Trump Administration.

While Trump attacks our health care, our immigrant communities, and the very foundation of our democracy, here’s what I’m doing to fight back — from joining lawsuits to introducing legislation to signing petitions and more.

Voted Against the “Big Ugly Bill”

Trump’s Big Ugly Bill is the largest Medicaid cut in history. I flew across the country just four weeks after giving birth to my son, Sam, to vote against this disastrous bill that rips health care away from families, takes food off the plates of hungry kids, dismantles our behavioral health system, and shutters rural hospitals.

Standing Up To ICE

Everyone can agree that we need a process to deport convicted violent criminals – but that’s not what ICE is doing. This administration is targeting people based on the color of their skin, ripping families apart, deporting legal residents, and murdering US citizens in cold blood. I don’t support sending another dime to this rogue agency. That’s why I’ve consistently voted against funding for the Department of Homeland Security. I’ve also called for Secretary Kristi Noem’s removal and supported legislation to completely overhaul ICE, including demanding agents be unmasked, clearly identifiable, and wearing body cameras at all times.

Lowering Health Care Costs

As a mom, I know how expensive it can be to have unexpected visits to the doctor’s office. And that’s before Republicans’ self-made health care crisis that is going to cause health care costs to skyrocket. I’ve been fighting in Congress to lower costs so everyone can access the care they need to survive. Not only did I vote against Trump’s Big Ugly Bill, but I continued to push for the extension of the Affordable Tax Credit subsidies. Unfortunately, because of Republican inaction, these life-saving tax credits expired, forcing families to pay double — or even triple — for health care. Please know that I’m using my position as a Member of Congress to introduce legislation, join lawsuits, and sign petitions to protect health care access for everyone.

Fighting Trump’s Reckless Tariffs

Trump’s tariff regime has been crushing working families and forcing small businesses to close their doors. Coloradans are already struggling to make ends meet — they shouldn’t be forced to foot the bill for this reckless trade war. That’s why I joined a lawsuit to defend Congress’s power of the purse, signed petitions to force a vote on legislation to rein in his tariffs, and helped introduce bills to make sure hardworking families aren’t forced to bear the brunt of this trade war. I also introduced the Trump Tariff Transparency Act to expose the true economic impact of his trade policies and hold the administration accountable for decisions that are driving up prices.

Reining In Trump’s Military Power Grabs

While families struggle to make ends meet, Trump has instead focused on hurling threats and illegal military action at foreign countries like Venezuela and started a dangerous and unauthorized war with Iran, risking the lives of our troops, and making all of us less safe. I’ve joined multiple War Powers Resolutions that would rein in this rogue president and ensure that only Congress has the power to declare war. I also helped introduce articles of impeachment against Secretary Pete Hegseth because his incompetence is dangerous and jeopardizes service members, our security and our standing in the world. He must resign or we will remove him from office.

Protecting Colorado From Trump’s Political Retribution

Donald Trump is a vindictive president who is weaponizing vulnerable families, attacking our gold-standard mail-in ballot system, illegally canceling funding for disaster assistance, and more. Trump has targeted Colorado because we refuse to bend the knee to wannabe dictators. I have led the charge in fighting back against cuts to child care funding and joined my colleagues in demanding this administration immediately reverse course on their cruel cuts to clean water for our rural communities, public health programs, and more. Thankfully, because we’ve spoken out, the courts have put a check on this lawlessness but I will continue to stand up to the unprecedented political retribution we are witnessing.

Safeguarding Federal Workers

Since day one of Donald Trump has put our federal workforce on the chopping block. While they were already in limbo and not receiving the paychecks they depend on during the Republican government shutdown, Trump attempted to fire thousands of federal workers, including in the Federal Center in Lakewood. I introduced the SAFE Act, which would protect federal employees during all future shutdowns by prohibiting unlawful terminations and requiring reinstatement with back pay for anyone fired in violation of the law. Beyond being dedicated public servants, these are our neighbors and community members who have families that depend on them. These cruel lay offs have had cascading effects on our local economy. I’ve consistently fought back against mass firings of our federal employees and advocated for funding to go towards the people who are conducting critical work in Colorado every single day.
