WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) announced she will co-chair the new bipartisan Yes In My Back Yard (YIMBY) Caucus to promote the development of affordable housing across the country. Pettersen, who sits on the House Financial Services Housing and Insurance Subcommittee, joins Representatives Robert Garcia (CA-42-D), Lori Chavez-DeRemer (OR-05-R), Jake Auchincloss (MA-04-D), Juan Ciscomani (AZ-06-R), Scott Peters (CA-50-D), Chuck Edwards (NC-11-R), and Marc Molinaro (NY-19-R) as co-chairs. In Colorado, there is currently a housing shortfall of over 100,000 homes and apartments, ranking second worst in the nation. The YIMBY movement focuses on encouraging policies that help new housing development such as addressing outdated zoning, slow permitting, and discriminatory land use policies that have perpetuated the housing crisis. The caucus will build on efforts to confront these challenges at the federal level while working alongside local and state leaders. “When I travel across my district, I consistently hear from constituents about the skyrocketing cost of housing,” said Pettersen. “As communities in Colorado and across the country face a lack of affordable housing supply, Congress cannot afford to delay addressing this urgent issue. I’m proud to join this bipartisan group of leaders committed to working across all levels of government to find solutions that help us build more affordable housing and bring down costs for working families.” |
