Rep. Pettersen Launches Student Resources Hub, Gets Answers from Department of Education

WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) launched a new Student Resource Hub through her official website today, pulling together important resources and information to assist students and borrowers as they prepare to go to school, or start paying back their loans after graduating. A portion of the information included comes directly from the Department of Education following a letter Pettersen and her colleagues in the Future Forum Caucus sent last September requesting more clarification for borrowers as student loan payments resumed.

“I waited tables to pay for my college education, but with rising tuition costs that would be impossible today,” said Pettersen. “While there are financial resources available for students to help cover these costs, they can be difficult to navigate–especially when the information is scattered across difficult platforms and being updated regularly. As the first person in my family to graduate from college, I know how confusing it can be to handle loans, applications, and repayment without any guidance. We’re launching this Student Resource Hub to help cut through the confusion, and get students and borrowers connected to their best financial options.”

The Student and Borrowers Resource Hub can be accessed by clicking here or by visiting pettersen.house.gov/students and includes:

  • Recent updates from the Biden administration and any changes to the borrowing or repayment process
  • Information on actions Pettersen is taking on behalf of students in Congress
  • Guides to walk students and parents through the FAFSA application process and potential sources for financial assistance in higher education
  • Details on loan repayment plans, how to apply for forgiveness or cancellation, and who to contact for help
  • Colorado-specific resources for loan repayment and service-based federal assistance programs

The launching of this Student Resource Hub comes following a letter Pettersen joined from the Future Forum caucus to the Department of Education expressing their concerns over the information available to borrowers as student loan repayments were set to resume after the pause enacted during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Last month, they secured clarifying information from the Department and the new Student Resource Hub has been created in an effort to disseminate this information to Coloradans.
