WASHINGTON—Tonight, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) released the following statement on President Biden’s State of the Union address to the nation:
“Tonight was my second opportunity to sit in the House of Representatives as President Biden gave his update on the state of our nation. Since last year, I’ve seen firsthand the dysfunction in Congress and the inability of Republicans to address the urgent needs of our country. What we heard tonight was a refreshing commitment to solving problems and the possibilities that lay ahead if we can come together for the American people.
“There is so much at stake at this moment and the people of Colorado’s 7th District are counting on us to deliver solutions. Our freedoms are being threatened by extremists, democracy is under attack at home and abroad, American families are struggling with rising costs, and the opioid epidemic continues to claim millions of lives. Especially as women across the country watch in fear as their rights and bodily autonomy are stripped back, President Biden made clear that we will not back down to extremism. We must restore Roe v. Wade, pass voting rights, and defend the foundations of our democracy.
“President Biden delivered the strongest, fastest recovery in the world from the global pandemic, which was exacerbated by the previous administration’s destructive leadership. The state of our union is now strong, but we cannot stop here. We must fight together to strengthen the middle class with a fair tax system that invests in our future, make housing more affordable with significant investments to increase our supply, and do everything we can to make it easier for our hardworking constituents to achieve the American dream. I came to Congress to level the playing field for regular people across my district, and I’m committed to working with President Biden and my colleagues in Congress to make this vision a reality.”
