Pettersen, Garbarino Introduce National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Coin Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congresswoman Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) and Congressman Andrew R. Garbarino (NY-02) introduced the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Coin Act, bipartisan legislation directing the U.S. Treasury to mint commemorative coins honoring the service and sacrifice of firefighters throughout American history.

The coins will be emblematic of the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial. Proceeds from the sale of the coins will go to support the mission and programs of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which supports the families of fallen firefighter heroes and works to reduce preventable firefighter deaths and injuries.

“In Colorado and across the country, firefighters run headfirst into danger to rescue people, protect our homes, and safeguard our lands,” said Pettersen. “They put their lives on the line every day, especially during devastating wildfires, and this legislation is about making sure we always honor those who gave everything in the line of duty. I’m proud to introduce this bill with Congressman Andrew Garbarino and hope these memorial coins will serve as a small token of our appreciation for the courage and dedication of Colorado’s brave firefighters.”

“Firefighters put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities, and far too many have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty,” said Garbarino. “The National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Coin will serve as a lasting tribute to their courage and commitment, while also raising critical funds to support survivor families and memorial programs through the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. I’m proud to lead this effort to honor our fallen heroes.”

Under the bill, the U.S. Mint will produce limited-edition $5 gold, $1 silver, and half-dollar clad coins. Surcharges from each coin will benefit the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.

Additional cosponsors of the bill include Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (PA-01), April McClain Delaney (MD-06), and Steny Hoyer (MD-05).
