Rep. Pettersen Votes Against Republicans’ Partisan Funding Bill

WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) voted against Republicans’ funding legislation that could cut funding for veterans’ benefits, health care, and affordable housing.

“For the past two years, Democrats have been the adults in the room and worked in a bipartisan manner to fund the government. But Republicans have repeatedly pushed us to the brink of a shutdown. This constant chaos and dysfunction jeopardizes our national security, undermines our military readiness, and disrupts the critical services that millions of Americans rely on.

“Now, they’ve refused to bring Democrats to the negotiating table. I’m ready to support a bipartisan funding bill, but I won’t stand by as Republicans slash veterans’ benefits, rip away health care, and force struggling families out of their homes – all while giving unchecked power to an unelected billionaire like Elon Musk who wants to dismantle our government and harm hardworking families.”

Specifically, House Republicans’ partisan funding bill:

  • Fails to address the rising cost of housing and would jeopardize rental subsidies for more than 32,000 households including veterans, survivors of domestic violence, seniors, and families with disabilities, including providing $168 million less than what is needed to maintain homeless services across 400 communities nationally
  • Neglects to fully fund the Emergency Food Program (TEFAP) by $20 million at a time of rising food costs and would leave 25,000seniors unable to participate in the Commodity Supplemental Food Program
  • Fails to provide adequate funding to the “Toxic Exposure Fund” which gives care to veterans who were exposed to burn pits, Agent Orange, and other toxic substances
  • Cuts $2 billion in funding meant to improve the safety of our airports, railways, roads, and ports across all 50 states
