Rep. Pettersen Statement on the Speakerless House
Washington,
October 20, 2023
WASHINGTON—U.S. Representative Brittany Pettersen (CO-07) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives went into recess without a Speaker: “The American people shouldn’t have to pay the price for the Republican party’s inability to govern. It’s been two and a half weeks since the U.S. House of Representatives had a Speaker. Yet, we’ve all been sent home. “There is too much at stake for us to allow the far-right extremists in Congress to hold the rest of us and our government hostage. Republicans have been unable to select a party leader for weeks and I am extremely disappointed that they continue to choose partisanship over coming together with Democrats to find a bipartisan path forward. The American people need leadership and bipartisanship from their government – not chaos and dysfunction.” |
