Currently, the federal government doesn’t have comprehensive statistics or an effective strategy to combat this reckless activity. My bill would establish a Street Racing Prevention and Intervention Task Force under the FBI to coordinate local, state, and federal strategic responses to street racing, develop best practices to combat the problem nationwide, and create educational materials on its harms.
Several people have been killed or injured in Colorado in recent years in conjunction with street racing, many just innocent bystanders. Speeding generally is also on the rise, responsible for 46% of all traffic fatalities in Colorado in 2020. I am committed to doing everything I can to make our state and our streets safer and I will keep pushing until this bill becomes law.
