Honoring with Action

Dear [firstname],

A year ago, a hateful murderer entered Club Q in Colorado Springs and took the lives of 5 innocent people and injured many others. Our LGBTQ+ community was targeted at one of the few places where they were supposed to be safe and accepted, and we are all still reeling from that loss. My heart is with all those who are still struggling with the loss of a loved one and the fear that permeated our community.

The memory of the Club Q victims and their legacies inspire me personally – and all of us – to push for action and demand change. Dangerous and vitriolic rhetoric from radical extremists continues to fuel hate, oppressive policies, and violence against the LGBTQ+ community. We must come together and fight to ensure everyone is treated equally regardless of who they are or who they love. This is the only way to build a better, more inclusive community in Colorado and the nation.

Victims of Club Q Shooting

Tragically, mass shootings have become a steady drumbeat in our country. Every community has been impacted in some way from gun violence and we cannot let another day pass without taking action.

When I was in the Colorado legislature, I helped pass red flag laws and expanded background checks to keep weapons out of the hands of dangerous people. Now, as a member of the Gun Violence Prevention Caucus in Congress, I'm working to do the same thing at the federal level. These are commonsense laws that could save lives. Let's honor the victims of past tragedies by working to prevent future ones.
