Jefferson County Year in Review

Dear [firstname],

It is the greatest honor of my life to be able to represent you in Congress. I grew up here in Jefferson County and served in the Colorado state legislature for a decade before heading to D.C. to increase opportunities for regular people like me. While far too many people in Washington are focused on partisanship and dysfunction, I’ve spent this first year working on delivering real results.

We’ve helped thousands of residents, secured millions in grant funding, and worked on legislation to address the opioid crisis and increase access to affordable housing and childcare. As we gear up for next year, I want to hear from you:

What should be our top priority in Congress next year?

Jobs and the economy

Climate change

Housing affordability

Gun violence prevention

Reproductive health care

I’ve spent the past year visiting communities across Jefferson County and talking with people about how we can work together to make our state an even better place to live. My first week in Congress, I opened an office in Lakewood, and we’ve held dozens of events, office hours, meetings, and discussions with constituents. Your experiences and feedback are invaluable, and they guide my work in Washington every day.

This year, I’ve met with business leaders across Arvada and Lakewood, toured affordable and attainable housing projects in Wheat Ridge, met with leaders in innovation at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, announced $10 million for clean-up efforts in our state alongside U.S. Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland, and so much more. At a town hall I hosted in Westminster, I heard directly from residents and local leaders about their concerns with the opioid crisis, the rise in gun violence, and illegal street racing.

One of the most meaningful events my office held this year was a ceremony to honor Vietnam War veterans from across Colorado. It was a privilege to thank each of these brave soldiers and present them each with a special pin from the United States government. I also had the opportunity to unveil a “Wall of Honor” at a senior living facility in Lakewood to honor the veterans who live there. I will always work to support our veterans and servicemembers who sacrifice to keep all of us safe.

Statistics on Year 1

I’m proud of everything my team has been able to accomplish this year for Colorado’s 7th Congressional District. We’ve helped thousands of Coloradans with everything from backlogged veterans’ benefits to missing social security checks, stalled passports, and more. Just check out what William from Lakewood had to say about his experience:

“I have never experienced such a positive and helpful response from any elected official or their staff ever in my 51 years. I worked with Team Pettersen on an issue with the IRS and the help I received was remarkable. I am so grateful and appreciative!”

If you need help with any federal agency, please contact my office at 303-274-7944. We are here to support and advocate for you.
