We’ve all felt Colorado’s extreme heat this month and high temperatures are expected to stay in place for much of the summer. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, we just had our hottest June on record. I want to hear from you —

From the Denver metro area to the highest peaks of the Rockies, summer temperatures are soaring. Climate change is no longer a distant threat; it is a stark reality impacting our everyday lives. As your representative in Congress, I am committed to keeping people safe and working to tackle the climate crisis head-on.

Over the past few years, we have witnessed a concerning trend of extreme weather events, with unprecedented heatwaves becoming more frequent and intense. The scorching temperatures have not only disrupted our daily lives, but have also led to serious implications for our environment, economy, and public health. Once coming to Congress, I joined the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition, so I could have a seat at the table in discussions around the climate crisis and extreme heat events.

This week, I signed on to the Preventing HEAT Illness and Deaths Act, which would establish a new committee to address extreme heat. The bill would also study extreme heat and issue recommendations to improve heat-health preparedness, as well as provide funding for community projects that reduce the health impacts of extreme heat.

It's important to take precautions when temperatures get this high. Make sure to drink plenty of water and avoid being out in the sun for too long if possible. We have to come together as a community during times like these, so check in on your neighbors, especially if they are elderly or without air conditioning.
