Not too late to file on time!

Dear [firstname],

It's that time of year again — tax season. It's still not too late to file on time! The deadline to file your federal and state taxes, or for a qualifying extension, is Monday, April 15th. Taxes are what keep our schools open, our roads paved, and our emergency services staffed. I want to thank you for paying your taxes and investing back into your community. If you're having issues with your taxes or the IRS, check out the local resources below or contact my office for help.

The wealthiest Americans pay just a fraction of the taxes the average person does. As we approach Tax Day, do you support efforts to make billionaires and corporations pay their fair share?

Safety Tips

This is also a very dangerous time of year where scammers and cyber criminals may try to steal your important information and credentials.

Remember that the IRS does not send texts or emails, and if you receive one it is a scam! The IRS also doesn't leave threatening prerecorded messages over the phone.

5 things the IRS will never do

The best way to stay safe is to pay attention to anything that seems out of the ordinary. It is wise to directly call your bank or the IRS before clicking any links regarding your finances.

If you feel you have been targeted by a scam attack please contact the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration at IRS Impersonation Scam Reporting.

Inflation Reduction Act

Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act passed by Democrats, there are a wide array of clean energy and home improvement tax credits that are available to take advantage of this filing season.

Collectively, these tax credits are expected to save Americans $38 billion on their electricity bills. You can join in on these savings by utilizing the:

  1. New Electric Vehicle Tax Credit: Up to $7,500
  2. Used Electric Vehicle Tax Credit: Up to $4,000
  3. Electric Vehicle Charger Tax Credit: Up to $1,000
  4. Residential Clean Energy Upgrades Tax Credit: An uncapped 30% tax credit for residential clean energy upgrades such as the purchase or installation of solar panels, solar water heaters, geothermal heat pumps, battery storage systems.
  5. And more!

If you weren’t able to take advantage of these benefits this year, you can always access these tax credits for the next tax season.

Fighting for you

In Congress, I'm fighting to protect taxpayers and make it easier for Coloradans to make ends meet. I voted to protect the IRS budget, which would prevent backlogs and processing times from getting worse.

I also introduced the Pink Tariffs Study Act this week to examine the impact of import taxes which directly contribute to women paying more for everyday goods than men, including everything from razors to clothes.

My office has also been able to return over $1,000,000 back to residents of Colorado's 7th Congressional District from the IRS and other federal agencies. If you or a loved one are having issues with the IRS or another federal agency, contact my office at (303) 274-7944.
